When I saw Grand Haven by Minnick & Simpson come out I knew I needed to plan something. Grand Haven is a Lake Michigan city that we visited and camped at the State Park as kids. That was a very long time ago, but I remember it like yesterday. I had a layer cake of their Belle Isle in my drawer too. I bought when it came out, since my husband and I got married on Belle Isle.
Ok, I have fabric now what. I cut a few pieces for a couple of test blocks.
I wasn’t crazy about them, so tried using the pieces in different patterns.
Still not thrilled. Then I found Quilty Love – Star Pop II and it was the winner.
It was so fast and easy to put together. Then my usual question is how am I going to straight line quilt this one. Guess what, I graduated to having it longarmed. There is a very talented longarmer in my neighborhood, Carol Alperin, Upstairs Quilting.
I had corners left from my piecing, so I came up with another quilt, 54 x 54. This one is going to Tunnels for Towers, a group for Veterans moving into housing. I committed to doing 3 more for this organization this year.
Off to see what I can work on next.
I love this quilt and so glad you found it. It really is fabulous….and nice that it worked with your 10″ squares. Amazing that you were able to make another one! So great that it is going to be a charity quilt. So much fun that you found a longarmer. It is nice to have some of them finished by others, especially larger ones!
