Finally getting a small bit of sewing done, can’t even call it quilting.
My first blocks were for my #StashBeeHive1 on instagram. Julia was our queen and she asked for wonky stars, purple stars and black/dark background. These were very easy, but of course I stressed over wonky. Will it really look ok? Will she like them? I think they turned out great and look forward to seeing her quilt.
My next queen was Maryanna in the #SwarmLilyPad group. Curves make me nervous, but not as much as they did last year. She picked out the Blossom Heart’s Fizzy block.
My last block was for Susan. She sent each of us the fabric to use for the four corners. Christmas with reds and greens was her fabric choice. I was getting nervous the second week of June, as my fabric hadn’t arrived. It was mailed to my old address and the post office came through, it took about two weeks. Susan picked Blossom Hearts Jagged Little Pill block. This was a very quick little block and will make a great Christmas quilt.
Now that my June blocks are done, I am off to put together my blocks for my reign as queen in March.
I have more than enough blocks for a great lap size quilt. I’m thinking of a small quilt to hang on my office wall or place mats with the extra blocks.
One of my projects for this year is to take all the mini charm packs (2.5″ x 2.5″) I have collected and put them together in a postage stamp quilt. Whenever I bought a bundle or pack of fabric I liked, I also bought a mini. My intention was to make a stamp quilt. I’m thinking of making 16 x 16 blocks and then putting the blocks together. Anyone have any ideas or tips to make things easy? I think I have 49 packs, so that is 2,058 pieces of fabric. Yikes, what am I thinking. Hoping to have it finished by year end.
But wait there is more. For those that have followed my, you know that I am a one project girl. Finish it then start the next one. After we moved, I don’t know what happened. A dear friend, Wendy, at Pieceful Thoughts sent me a pattern and baby jelly roll. What is a girl to do, start another quilt. Today I started cutting and piecing this quilt.
If that wasn’t enough to make my head spin, I ordered this fabric to make a baby quilt for my niece. My husband’s sister passed away last fall. Her daughter is expecting the families first grand baby and her due date is the anniversary of her Mom’s passing. There is plenty of joy with some sadness. Hoping to put this together and include couple of pieces of fabric from some of her Mom’s favorite shirts. Need this one done for our trip back to Michigan in August.
Hope everyone is doing well and having a very safe and happy start to summer here in North America.
Well you have been busy! Love the strips Wendy sent you and your wonky stars are perfect. I love the postage stamp idea, and only can think that maybe you could use it as a leader ender project. I do know that keeping the ready to go things nearby is also a help…small goals each day. I know you will get the baby quilt done…can’t wait to see it. New life does help reduce some of the loss – not erase it but change it.
All cute blocks. SO nice of Wendy to send you the fabric and pattern. Sorry to hear about your husband’s sister. The Seuss fabrics are adorable, looking forward to seeing that finished baby quilt.
That Wendy is such a sweetie isn’t she! Maybe you could start your postage stamp quilt as a leader ender while making the other things;) Just trying to help, hehe.
Jan, I can see you’re picking up momentum, now that you’re getting settled back in. So much quilt fun going on in your studio! Love that postage stamp quilt idea. Congrats on the new family member on the way. The joy will comfort any sorrow.
Oh, I’m so glad you are back in your sewing room, and the thread is flying! Those bee blocks all look great, I can’t wait to see how you construct the mini charms quilt (no advice here), and I’m so happy you like the mini jelly and pattern. That baby quilt will come together in a snap and it will be loved and enjoyed, I’m sure.
See Jan, here is the thing – everything is slightly wonky. Some slightly more than others. Even when we think we have achieved accuracy it is not perfection. So my motto is this – Embrace the wonky 🙂
The purple stars on the dark background are just the right amount of wonky and I like them a lot. Now shall we talk about Wendy?
Here you are trying to be disciplined and orderly about your projects and then you receive the cute jelly roll and the darling pattern that throws you off. It is a sweet distraction that comes wrapped like a present. I am telling you that Wendy is trouble :-p
With friends like her who needs squirrels?
