Hope you have all been enjoying the Hop so far. We are at the half way point.
Villa Rosa patterns are quick and easy. Think of a large postcard size with a full pattern on each card. This Hop is a great way to see so many patterns done in a variety of fabrics. I was introduced to Villa Rosa last year by some of my quilty friends, who sent care packages to me. You can head here to purchase the five patterns in this set for $8.95. Where can you get five patterns for this price?
I chose the Twinkle pattern it finishes at 60″ x 60″. It uses two charm packs and who doesn’t have a stash of charm packs. My sister gave me two charm packs for Christmas last year, so it was an easy choice.
The two charm packs are, For You by Zen Chic for Moda, she had been holding these in here stash for quite some time. I cut the background blocks from my bolt of Kona white and was ready to start sewing.
Normally I am a draw the line HST girl. This time I used my Cluck Cluck Sew Diagonal Seam Tape. It worked great and was a time saver not needing to draw 144 lines! I think it will be my new process!!
It was a very easy pattern to put together. I use my Bloc Loc ruler for trimming my 144 HSTs. It was so quick to put together, I forgot to stop and take pictures, but here is a picture of one of the blocks.
Quickly I had the quilt top together.
Found a sale on wide backs one day and ordered Freespirit Underwood Aqua 108″ for the backing.
I had hoped to have the quilting completed, but things happen. My machine needed to go for its maintenance. My local shop does their maintenance scheduling via a paper queue. You call to get added to the list and when your turn comes up they give you a call and you bring your machine in. I got on the list last December, they are having a tough time keeping up with all the machines in our area, since there are so few qualified technicians. Didn’t want to miss my turn when I got the call, so I dropped it off. I like this process, it allows me to keep using my machine until her turn comes up. It also helps the technician not house machines all waiting their turn. You’ll have to stop back later to see my finished quilt.

Grab something to drink and start browsing the posts! Good Luck to all!
I love Love the fabric for this pattern. I am new to VR and have made the Pinch me pattern. I love the Diagonal Seam Tape. It is so much faster using it. My favorite pre cut would have to be jelly rolls because you can use them on so many different patterns. But my favorite pattern would have to be courthouse steps. That’s my go to for baby quilts. Have a Great Day!!
Your Twinkle sparkles! And with 108″ backing you’ve got a lot left over for your next quilt.
Love your fabric choices. I don’t have a favorite precut, depends on what I’m making. Right now I have fat quarters to make VRD “Gummies”.
I enjoy using Layer Cakes, they give me a wide choice of patterns to use. I have no pattern in particular that I would use, just one that catches my eye. Your Twinkle is bright & colorful.
Your version of Twinkle is so cheerful and lovely, Jan! I have that tape, and forget to use it!
Twinkle twinkle little star. I love that pattern and yes Charm Packs and Fat Quarters are my go to precuts.
Your quilt looks very calming in those colors.
Thank you for sharing
Your charm packs were the perfect choice for Twinkle! My favorite precuts are Layer Cakes and would be a great choice for the Twinkle pattern, too! Agree that diagonal tape is a time saver!!
You have lovely tools! Will check this. i have a very thin pencil from Japan so far. Hey, you are in Michigan! Where exactly? Signed for your blog… your work is beautifull and I did not think it goes so quickly. The pattern from Villa Rosa are really good and I love the bog hop! Thanks to you for participating!
Wow. I love all your quilts, but, I think Twinkle is my favourite. I think fat quarters are my favourite cut followed by yardage of coordinates. Thanks for the opportunity to win one of your prizes.
I’m not a big fan of precuts…but if I had to choose one it would probably be layer cakes. They seem to be the most versatile.
Your quilt is lovely.
I like making scrap quilts and one of my “go to” patterns is bow tie, but there are other blocks that I use as well.
My favorite is the layer cake precut . I would make the clover pattern 😻. Tobyyellow@yahoo.com
I love the diagonal seam tape! I love jelly rolls and have made quite a few using the Jelly Roll race idea and variations on it.
After seeing your Twinkle and just looking through my 5” square precuts, I am inspired to use some of mine that I have 2 sets of.
My favorite precuts are jelly rolls or the 2.5” strips in various names. I have made several different patterns using them and really don’t have a favorite pattern.
I am still a beginner and in the learning process. So I don’t have a favorite block, but so far I like layer cakes and FQ bundles as they have so many possibilities. I am in the process of making VRD’s Moonstone as it seemed easy for a beginner. Your Twinkle is very pretty! Thank you for sharing!
I love the For You by Zen Chic for Moda! I love the mini charm packs because I hate to cut small, I like my fingers but most of my precuts are charm packs. My favorite pattern is Pointless by VRD but I am really liking 31! Who doesn’t have a panel that they don’t know what to do with it. This is why those cards are so awesome and easy to store in a binder! Thank you so much for sharing!
I have used all types of precuts, but my favorite is a layer cake!
My favorite precut is a jellyroll. I really enjoy variations of nine patch patterns. Love the Twinkle pattern. Yours looks great! I need that bloc lok ruler.
My favorite precut is fat quarter bundles. They are so versatile. The Gypsy pattern is a quick gift. Love your finishes.
I love to use VRD patterns, they go together so fast. My favorite precut would be fat quarters because they can be used in so many ways. My favorite pattern that I use is Sisterhood, which I am making for a class.
Your fabric is so pretty, and the Twinkle pattern is great, backing on sale…..BINGO a perfect quilt.
Hope the maintenance on your machine is painless:)
I really like the Twinkle pattern too. I like the versatility of a layer cake because it can be cut down if needed.
I love your fabric. I would love to do the Gypsy quilt with a layer cake
I love charm packs – lots of variety and easy to store. Jolie is my favorite VRD pattern. I have lots of theme fabrics. Candies is great for charm packs. I love your Twinkle quilt.
I love your quilt and that backing fabric is lovely. I think it’s a pattern that even I, with my limited sane quilting abilities, would be able to tackle. For me it has to be fat 1/4’s because they are perfect for the landscape wall hangings I do. I’m having fun on the hop!
Pretty quilt. I like the twinkle pattern. Pre cuts it depends on the pattern, I’m doing at that time.
Like Jelly Rolls since most of the QOV patterns our group makes use 2 1/2 inch strips BUT really like TWINKLE so need to pick up a RED, WHITE and blue charm pack .
jsyoungsurgery@gmail.com
Love them all but clover table runner or bed scarf would be cool with 5 inch charm pack…
Jan I LOVE your version of Twinkle! Tell your sister those charm packs were perfect. 🙂 I have a roll of diagonal seam tape and have never been successful in lining it up, but I did get tired of drawing all those lines, so I’ll give it another try! What kind of sewing machine do you have? I took my older Janome to the guy that “everyone recommends” and I was underwhelmed with his service. I have since sold that one and bought a new one, but at some point I’ll need to find a good service place. Glad you have a place you can trust!
Remember, please don’t add my name to the drawing – I want one of these lovely commenters to have more change to win! 😀
Your quilt is beautiful! Well done! my favorite pre cut is a jell roll and I like to make the jelly roll race 2 with the cornerstones!
Love your fabric choice!! Precuts are tough. I have jelly rolls and charm packs right now. Also panel and fat quarter packs. I tend to pick up what I need for a pattern. If I was picking up a precut just because I like it, I think I would choose 10 in squares as they can be used different ways.
I have vrd Fernanda cut out right now.
I really like your Twinkle quilt! I have only used charm packs and jelly rolls so far. No pattern, just sewing it together. Im currently working on Be Unique by VRD. I recently retired so plan to really get some sewing done. I’ve been buying gorgeous fabrics for a while in anticipation of a sew happy retirement.
Your Twinkle is lovely!
As always you amaze me, and motivate me!! Love your Twinkle Quilt and now I think I need this pattern to add it to my to do list!!!
Your version of Twinkle is going to be fabulous! My favorite precut fabric is fat quarters. I feel like I get more bang for my buck. I can’t wait to try the Gypsy pattern and the Ebb Tide pattern. Thanks for considering me for the blog hop!
Your Twinkle is lovely – looks soft & cuddly. Charms are my favorite pre-cut . I make coin quilts & disappearing nine patch quits for charity with them. I love the new Gypsy Rose pattern in the VRD bundle, so will try making a bunch of lap quilts with it. Such fun!
The only precut I have used so far is the fat quarters. I’m going to be doing twinkle and will try charm packs for that.
The pre-cut I prefer is fat quarters. I have an Asian themed panel to use with the 31 pattern.
Love Villa Rosa’s Ascot pattern utilizing layer cakes. So very simple with a wonderful effect.
That charm pack is gorgeous in this pattern. I love the back you chose, too. So sorry your machine is in the shop and you couldn’t finish…but the top is stunning. It will get done soon (no entry for me please).
jelly roll and I picked Gemini from Villa Rosa
I do love charms packs – I have quite a few hoarded…er…saved. 😉 LOL Clover would be perfect and well as Twinkle. I also have a couple of panels for 31.
I love Angel Face VR pattern. It really shows off large prints. I love fat quarters so I have a bit more fabric to work with.
my fav precut is the fat quarter. they are so versatile. i love making scrap quilts and make lots of 16 patch blocks, as well as hst and fail fence blocks. thanks for the opportunity to win a prize. patti in florida
Your Twinkle quilt looks fantastic! And that backing – oh la! la! Perfect!
I like a fat quarter bundle. You can do so much with it, and get multiple projects from one. Yellow Brick Road is a great pattern to use.
I love FQ bundles, few limitations on precut patterns. I have to get my hands on that seam tape. I spent last night drawing lines as I am making the 31 quilt right now. I am still newish. Been doing this a few years but with work, kids and their sports, tennis, my time is very limited. I have made the Cherrydale VRD quilt.
My favorite precut is the layer cake–I like to use a variety of patterns and the latest I want to do is a tulip pattern.
I also like fat quarters for more scrappy type quilts.
barbkaup(at)(yahoo)(dot)(com)
Gorgeous Twinkle, Jan!!!
I rarely use a pre cut. My favorite patterns are scrappy
I tend to buy jelly rolls or fat quarter bundles depending on what pattern I want to make. I don’t have a favorite pattern as I seldom make something twice.
I like charm packs and twinkle is a great pattern for charms.
I love layer cakes but fat quarters are my favorite for versatility and minimum waste.
Right now, I’m making the Gypsy quilt in springy garden fabrics. I rarely make the same pattern twice.
The Hunters star is one of my favorites. Diane
Love your Twinkles. I love charm packs and Jelly Rolls!
It is hard to choose one pre-cut favorite. I love the ease of jelly rolls for making the Jelly Roll Race quilts I usually give away for charity or comfort quilts. They are quick to make and usually are bright and colorful! I really like the fabrics and backing you chose for the Twinkles quilt.
I recently used strips to make a pinapple quilt. So quick. Look forward to seeing your twinkle quilt when it’s quilted.
I like fat quarters the best. I also like charm packs with the Betty quilt from the Just Two Charm Packs book.
I am loving the Gypsy Rose pattern. I love layer cakes, ever since my one friend gifted me one with the book by Moda Bake Shop – Did someone say Cake? Was such a great gift! Thank you for sharing and I look forward to seeing Twinkle finished!
I really like the twinkle pattern. It is really a great pattern for a scrap buster.
I forgot to leave my email. auntrosiekay@yahoo.com
My favorite precut is either fat quarters or layer cakes. Both I can cut down to the size I need.
I love your Twinkle quilt! Thank you for sharing. My favorite pre- cuts are layer cakes. They are so versatile and I can do so much with them. I’m looking to do Chef’s Special next.
Your Twinkle is going to be beautiful, I’ll be checking back to see it quilted up. 🙂 I hadn’t heard of the diagonal seam tape, but I’m going to have to get some, especially before I make a Twinkle. I love charm packs and fat quarters. I’m a scrappy (planned scrappy) quilter so the fat quarters are like a treasure chest. But sometimes it’s great to grab a charm pack and get going.
Fat quarters are my favorite precut because they are so versatile. I have seven beside me just waiting to be made into a Augustina quilt for a church fund raiser!
Thanks for participating in the hop!
The variety of Twinkle quilts on the blog hop is great! I already liked the pattern, and I love your version. Charm packs and mini charm packs are my downfall! Thanks for participating in the hop.
I really like the square precuts, the candy/charm packs and layercakes.
They make half-square triangles patterns so enjoyable to sew 🙂
c.j.m.71email (at) gmail (dot) com
My favorite pre-cut is fat quarter and I would like to use them for making Gypsy Rose.
The fabric you used in Twinkle is so pretty. Very pretty quilt.
I think my favorite pre-cut would have to be fat quarters, just because they can be cut down so many different ways! I love versatility! I’m looking forward to making Gypsy, I have a few baby quilts to make this year and that seems like a great pattern for those projects!
My favorite pre-cuts are fat quarters. I already have Ebb Tide cut out and am ready to sew.
My favorite precut is the charm pack and I would like to make the Clover pattern featured in this blog hop. Thank you for sharing your process in making Twinkle. I am learning so much!
I love all the precuts but can’t seem to resist getting the charm packs – all those different fabric choices. I like the Twinkle pattern you did – would love to make that one.
I can’t say I have a favorite pre-cut, but batiks are my favorite kind of fabric. I’ve never seen the sew diagonal tape. I’ve learned something new today! I don’t have a particular pattern in mind since I don’t have a favorite pre-cut.
Your quilt is gorgeous! And I’m sure will be even better when it’s quilted…I know stuff happens! I like to use panels and would like to use a panel in “31” as it looks like it would work up pretty quickly. I like fast and easy! Thanks for sharing and for the chance at the giveaways!
I love using layer cakes. I don’t have a favorite pattern that I use them for, though!
Sew excited for this blog hop
I understand about maintenance, mine just came back from the spa.
I like like 10 inch squares and plan to make Gypsy soon.
I like 5 and 10 inch, and of course fat quarters. I usually go scrappy so it’s hard to name a favorite. Love your version of Twinkle.
Tricia really picked some great participants. Even using the same patterns, us participants are treated to unique quilts. Thank you v
Love your creation of Twinkle!!!! Love it!!
Beautiful quilt!
It’s funny that I seem to be liking the Twinkle quilts in every bloggers post. But I really do love it. I have two charm packs that I just received in the mail for another project, but I just might have to change my plans!! I love layer cakes, too and can be convinced to use a jelly roll if the pattern is good!!!
Making HST’s can be a time-consuming task…thanks for your explanation of how you sped up the process. I’ll be looking into the tape for sure.
My favorite precut is charm packs. I tend to cut the squares into smaller squares and/or rectangles to come up with the variety of fabrics needed in the Bonnie Hunter quilts I like to make.
You have piqued my interest with the diagonal seam tape. My favorite precuts are 5 inch squares and I think Clover will be my next project with them. I have Villa Rosa’s Wonky Stars in progress now. After that I am going to do something that will allow me to try diagonal seam tape for the HSTs.
My favorite precuts are5” charms which I like to use with either BRD pattern Lamplighter or Hide and Seek.
I never realized there were so many quilting and sewing blogs out there. Thanks to Tricia from Villa ROSA DESIGNS for informing me.
Your Twinkle quilt looks amazing! Hearing your tips and tricks makes me want to make one very soon! I’d consider using up lots of small scraps in my buckets. My favorite precut is a fat quarter since there are so many ways to use it and cut it into smaller squares. I don’t have a favorite fat quarter pattern.
I love your version of the pattern. This is fun to see what everyone chooses to do. I really love making heart patterns and the easiest usually uses the 10 inch squares.
I like charm packs. And I like the Clover pattern. I’d have to do some adjusting, I think!?
Your Twinkle quilt turned out really pretty. I need to be getting my sewing machine to a shop to get a good cleaning but it is so hard to go without it. I like Layer Cakes the best. I would like to make the Gypsy quilt pattern. ryarolim@gmail.com
Jelly Rolls are my favorite precut and one of my go to quilt patterns for them is Jelly Roll Twist. Luv your Twinkle quilt and the dreamy aqua blue background.
Great fabric choices and the aqua backing has me swooning.
I would really like to make the gypsy pattern. My favorite is fat quarters but I do a have layer cake that would be perfect with the gypsy pattern.
Your Twinkle quilt is beautiful! My favorite precut is fat quarters. It’s a toss up between Twinkle and Ebb Tide as to the pattern I want to make.
I love your Twinkle Quilt! I’ve been on the look for simple charm pack patterns that I can use up some of the many charm packs I have! I love the versatility of charm packs that can be used alone or added to other scraps! Scrappy is my favorite!
Such a HAPPY quilt, your Twinkle! You did an awesome job and I look forward to stopping back to see it when it is finished. And your backing……gorgeous! Thanks for joining the Hop!
Love your Twinkle. The colors are so bright and cheery! I love all pre-cuts! The patterns are endless. But then I love fabric!
Your quilt top is lovely! And I sympathize with you about sewing machine repair. I recently got mine in for repair, after being on the shop’s list since last November! There are not many technicians where I live either. My favorite pre-cuts are fat quarters because they are so versatile, and so pretty in a stack! My favorite pattern of this group is 31. I have a blue heron panel that I’d like to try with this pattern. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work, and thanks for your inspiring blog!
I love your Twinkle. I really like jelly rolls and make a lot of 3 Dudes quilt pattern. That said I can see me using a lot of fabric up with Gypsy. Great donation quilt. Jmikebalou (at) aol (dot) com
Twinkle was my favourite the one I really wanted to make, and will still in the near future, but I did Gypsy. Your quilt turned out so pretty, and what a cool way to ‘line up’ for sewing machine service!
Really like your quilt, beautiful! Thanks for sharing. 2 1/2″ precuts are my favorite!
I love Charm packs and think the pattern you made is a wonderful way to use them! I would try that, also. But I am anxious to try Ebb Tide using neutrals – a new direction for me.
Charm packs are my favorite — I love getting a little bit of a whole fabric line. I like making half square triangles with them.
My favorite is probably fat quarters (“the original precut” as they say) just because it’s so easy to use them in so many ways and can be easily cut down to the other precut sizes.
I guess I prefer jelly rolls for my precut to use, no specific pattern tho’. Love that backing you chose.
Love what you did with the Twinkle pattern! Some of my favorite color combinations! I like to use jelly roll precuts & tend to turn stash into 2.5 inch strips. Wanda of Exuberant Color posted a quick technique on her blog dated 1-14-2014 titled Cleaning Up…..take two layered strips, cut 4 8-inch cuts, cut one log of each fabric in half, sew logs back together in 5 log blocks to make two blocks. She can explain it better than I …… LOL. Beth in AL bhambeth@gmail.com
I like the versatility of FQ precuts, can cut so many sizes from them. As such you can make sooo many patterns from them. But if I had to pick one one it would be VRDs rainbows end pattern.
Great job on the quilt, and thanks for sharing real life – that the machine needed to keep its service appt. I haven’t picked 1 precut I like best, but I do have some charm packs and love the twinkle patter, so that’s probably where I’ll start on a quilt
My favorite precut is a Layer Cake because of the versatility. For starters, I can use it for Layer Cake patterns, or can use it for any Charm Pack patterns–with a couple of cuts I have four charm packs so I can enlarge any charm pack patterns. Which brings me to my favorite patterns, which might be “Disappearing” Anything–Four Patch, Nine Patch, whatever. Love those, so easy and fun.
Love your quilt. My favorite pre cut is charm packs, so I would use them to make a Twinkle pattern, too!!
Your Twinkle quilt is fabulous!
My favorite precut is layer cakes or fat quarters. I like the flexibility of larger pieces of fabric. I don’t have a favorite pattern to use with either one.
Who doesn’t love a quick pattern? Especially when we’re making donation quilts or gifts! Your version of the pattern is lovely, Jan. The Hop gave you such a wonderful use of your sister’s generous gift!
I like Layer Cakes…so many uses! I think one would work for Twinkle!!!
I forgot to leave my email. Sorry! nikki_moshier at hotmail.com
My favorite precuts would be mini & 5″ charms next to jelly rolls. I am all about scrappy quilting.
I like charm packs because it makes disappearing 9 patch easier! I also like Jelly rolls because I like do split-rail fence quilts.
Love your Twinkle! I have a couple of Christmas charm packs that I may use.
Favourite precut would have to be fat quarters as I can cut those into anything!
I don’t think I have a favourite pattern – I never make anything more than once.
I’m really liking 31 right now as I have a number of panels that need to be loved.
I’m a charm pack girl and love using them in baby quilts, usually using a disappearing 4-patch, though I really want to make Clover from this set too.
I like using charm packs for disappearing nine patch squares to make a super quick table runner. I also like layer cakes but don’t have a particular pattern I use — the thing I like about the larger squares is that I can do so many different things with them.
I like the variety of fabrics in the precuts, but more often use fat quarters or yardage.
Your quilt is lovely.
Love the way your quilt turned out. It is very pretty.
I like to use jelly rolls and would make the 31 quilt.
Don’t have a favorite pre-cut. Use them all, depending on what project I’m making
Love your version of Twinkle! I have to say I used to use the diagonal seam tape–loved it–right up until I found the “stitch and flip” offered by Primitive Gatherings! The tape needed to be replaced and started leaving goo behind; I’ve had ONE s&f on my machine for almost a year now! (I keep meaning to do a post about it!). ANYhoo, my fave precut is probably a fat quarter set because it gives me all the fabric I need for most projects. I couldn’t say on a favorite pattern as I rarely make them more than once or twice but I guess one that comes to mind that I made last year is Cross & Crown. Absolutely LOVE how it turned out so will likely make another.
Love your quilt top. I’m always impressed when people remember fabric names and manufacturers.
I’m a fan of charm packs—usable in a lot of VR patterns, which I’m very fond of!
I love the Gypsy pattern and plan on using fat quarters. I made it years ago with fat quarters that featured adorable baby zebras. Will use my mermaid fat quarters for the next quilt.
I really enjoy using Villa Rosa patterns. Not sure if this worked or not.
Love your version of twinkle…very nice
Twinkle is fabulous very pretty
