Hands to Help Check In

Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict has been collecting charity quilts for many years.  In 2016, after I had been quilting for a few months, this happened What did I sign up for? Hands2Help.

It was a great push for a beginner quilter.  And who knew how it would come back around.

I enjoyed making these quilts and have made many over the years.  So far a total of 20 quilts have been sent to charities for Hands to Help.

It is not too late to sign up for 2023.  Here is the link to 2023 Hands to Help

Spring always gives me some kind of challenge to get quilts together for Hands to Help, but I always find a way.  This year is no different, this Breast Cancer diagnosis had take the wind out of me.  I am nearing the end of chemo, then on to the other parts of the process, surgery, radiation and finish with immunotherapy.  So many things I never knew anything about, but am learning every day.

I pulled two quilts out of my stash for this year.  Glad I have a few left in my stash.

Have another quilt all sandwiched up and ready for some quilting.

Remember  how I said earlier that things come around.  Here is a note I got in 2017:

Hi Jan! My breast cancer foundation is the lucky recipient of some of your beautiful donation quilts (from Emily Bailey in Centerville, UT). Your gorgeous handiwork will be going to some ladies with breast cancer and I wanted to personally thank you for your kindness, generosity and extreme talent! These are just beautiful and I know they will bring joy and comfort to women going through a very difficult time. Thank you so much for your willingness to spend so much time and effort to bring happiness to so many! You are wonderful! — Michele Earlewine, The Christi Anderson Rack Pack Foundation

I was doing some site clean up and it brought a smile to my face to read this post.

Today I am linking up with Sarah for the first check in.  Head over to see what everyone else is putting together, Check In.

Jan, I’m sorry to know you’re going through the breast cancer journey. Hope the chemo hasn’t been too hard on you. And here you are pulling out quilts to donate, too. They are beautiful!

I think it’s so generous and caring of you to continue to contribute to Hands2Help while you are going through your own journey with breast cancer. I’m sure your quilts will be deeply appreciated by the recipients. I continue to think about you and wish you the best as you move forward in your treatment.

Any cancer diagnosis is a shock, even if it’s what you feared. It is so good that you are still quilting, though. It’s gotten me through a lot, once I could do it again, and I’m pleased to be able to participate in H2H, which I missed out on last year after surgeries (not breast cancer). I wish you the best in your ongoing cancer wars, and pray for remission for you. Chemo is my least favorite part, because of all the side effects … but I’m still here, and so are you. =)

Thank you for sharing such a heart-warming post. It is humbling to know you are giving your time , thoughts and skills to meet the needs of others even when you are in the midst of treatment for breast cancer. I do pray you make a full recovery and continue to find pleasure in patchwork-quilting creativity through the remaining treatments.

You are doing so well, Jan. Wonderful that your earlier quilt went to someone in your situation. So great that you keep on giving. Thinking of you and praying for you.

I love how this has come around – what a sweetheart you are to find more quilts to hug others – when you are going thru your own journey. I hope you are recovering well. Hugs!
