How many of you still have friends from long ago? I do! I am blessed. This is a picture from 1975, a year after we all graduated high school. We have kept in touch over the years. Call today and it seems like you just talked yesterday. As things happen, sometimes it is weeks, sometimes months and sometimes years between calls, but doesn’t matter.
When we turned 50, we decided to have trip to the beach. It was a blast. Here we are in 2006. Still laughing, sometimes crying.
Each year we now head to Michigan and visit together at one girls house on the lake. It’s always fun, loads of laughs and the occasional Moscow Mule. This year there were four of us, three of us quilt. We were talking about quilting and one of the girls who couldn’t make this trip is going through some changes in her life. We decided she needed a quilt. As we talked we decided we all needed a group quilt. After much discussion, it was decided those of us that quilted would make the same quilt using different fabrics. A trip is planned to Gatlinburg in the spring and we will bring the quilts. Not sure how we are going to decide who get which quilt, but we’ll come up with something.
Are you glad I finally got around to talking quilts. I’m making two and the first is with a layer cake from Moda called Sanctuary by 3 Sisters.
A simple pattern, cutting the layer cake in half and using white in each block. All the quilts will use the white.
Here is my top all together.
No surprise here, I am using the wavy stitch with my walking foot for the quilting.
Using one of the fabrics from this collection for the backing and for the binding too. You know I have a hard time putting fabrics together, if they aren’t from the collection then it is striped binding.
Here is the finished quilt. With a peak at the next quilt I did for the group, but that will be another day.
I’m linking up with some friends:
Quilt Fabrication – Mid Week Makers
What a nice idea you ladies had for each to have a quilt of their own! It’s really nice you are able to stay in touch.
I have always wished I had a group of friends like that, so it’s fun to read that you all have kept in touch over the years. The quilt is a pretty one, Jan! Love those soft colors. I hope you tell us about the upcoming trip and the fun you all have!
That is wonderful that you all continue to get together and so many of you are quilters. Big hearts to be making to get a quilt made for everyone. I bet it will be fun to get together in the spring and hand them out to everyone.
I was also in the same class….but not with you. I am not as close to my high school friends although Facebook has brought us a little closer and when one was passing through recently I saw her. That quilt is just perfect – a quick finish with gorgeous fabrics. It will be fun to see the next version and then the others all together (I hope we see that). When is your Gatlinburg trip?
Love the fabrics, pattern and quilting for friends, Jan! I’ll be interested in hearing how you sort them out. I’m sure it will be nice.
Amazing that you are still together after all these years. You are blessed indeed! And soon you’ll have a group quilt as a remembrance. Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.
