Confetti Star

Back in the spring after our move to SC from MI, I received the Confetti Star quilt pattern and a junior jelly roll from my friend Wendy Pieceful Thoughts.

My plan was to make it for a wall hanging in my office/sewing room.  Something went awry in the cutting.  I had everything cut and two of the quadrants together.  When I went to put the third and fourth, there was a problem with the angle of the cuts.  I couldn’t fix it, so I put it back in the project box for another day.

A few months later, I pulled it out and study my problem.  I discovered that I couldn’t correct it with the fabric I had.  I went to Instagram and asked for help in #gettingyourquiltywishesgranted.  There was hope.  My angel was Pam @pamloves2quilt.  She had the two strips I needed and sent them to me.

I was on my way to finishing.  Got the top together.  Started to iron the backing, which I splurged and bought the wide Tula Pink for my backing.  Decided that the backing piece needed to be trimmed down to make the ironing easier.  You guessed it, I cut the wide backing wrong and needed to piece my back.  What was I thinking, I’ve done this exact thing before.  I plan to never do that again.  I will not cut my wide backing until my sandwich is totally together.

Got the sewn and the sandwich done.  Started my straight line quilting and go to the center of the star and decided to quilt in quadrants, rather than the length of the quilt.

It looks so cute and I was so proud to make that decision and it worked.   Added the cute Tula Pink striped binding and threw it into the wash.

You’ll notice the picture below has a bubble in the middle.  I don’t know what happened.  I’m guessing when I put the four quadrants together my seams got wonky.  Any ideas on how to tame the bubble.  I had wanted to hang this quilt, but it doesn’t look too cute with a bubble.  I’ve had it laying flat for a few days with some books on top hoping to tame the bubble, but it has only give slight relief.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

Was the quilt wet and stretched when you laid it out to flatten the center? I think you might want to look up tutorials for blocking a quilt; I hope it will help!

Looks great and so glad you came up with a great solution to getting it finished. I love how you quilted it. I would wet the whole quilt and block and let it dry flat. It generally works. There are a few tutorials out there on doing it…sometimes its the piecing and sometimes the quilting. Good luck as it would be stunning hung up.

It is just so fun to see this quilt, Jan! I don’t have any suggestions on the bubble, I’m just enjoying admiring the quilt. The colors are so fun. I’m glad you’ve enjoyed that little package!
