October Monthly Goal

I need to get back to setting my goals and getting things completed.  Back to Elm Street Quilts  One Monthly Goal.  My sister wanted me to do this tree for her for Christmas, in 2016.  We bought the pattern even though I’ve never really done more than one block of paper piecing.

Last fall we went out and bought the material and put it in a project box, then I moved to her house, we cut the fabric and put it back in the box.

The boxed moved with us to South Carolina and it is time to come out of the box.  I struggle with the tree.  Fabric against the print, not against the print then wrong side of the fabric against the print, then flipped again.  I made it through the tree, a total of 8 sections with 5 to 8 pieces a section.

Now for the skirt, 3 sections with 19 to 23 pieces in each section.  Wow some of these pieces are little.  I figured out a trick, I am sure many people already do this, but I fold the paper back for the next piece and trim my quarter inch seam.  Then I put the next piece of fabric straight on my cut.  It makes it much easier deciding where to put the next piece.

The skirt is done and attached.

Now I need to add the borders and then backing and quilting.

My October goal is to finish this project.

Very nice paper-pieced tree! I have projects sitting from 2016, possibly earlier, too! Good luck on your goal. I do think it helps to specify your goal for the month.

What a pretty pp pattern. It does get easier when you find the method that works best for you, in this case doing the fold back, trim and sew method. I like that one myself,

This is gorgeous and you are doing well persisting with the vagaries of paper piecing. Some are easier than other but I love the way it looks. Good luck and glad you are finally getting to it.

I thought it was done with the tree, then you added an adorable patchwork tree skirt! You are almost there! This is the perfect time of year to be working on Christmas, too. I’m rooting for you, Jan!

You have a lovely decoration there, and a good learning experience too, by the sound of things!

Another tip you may already know – when scoring the paper to fold it back, use a Hera marker. Makes it much easier. The more you paper piece, the easier it gets. That’s a cute quilt, Jan!

Your tree looks amazing! Paper piecing is one of those things that while it can be a pain to make, the end result looks great! Nice job making it through.
