The Fat Quarter Shop is bringing back many of the Vintage and Classic Blocks. This is the Broken Dishes Quilt block.
The block uses some tools that are new to me, Square on Square ruler by Creative Grids. And HST triangle papers.
Both of these tools were graciously provided to me by Fat Quarter Shop for this block.
I wasn’t really sure the ruler would make a difference, but for me it really did. It keep my block the correct size at each step, which made for a perfect block size. The ruler did make it easy to get the trimming done for the square in a square.
Then onto the HSTs. The papers made things easy. I had never used these papers before. I was always a draw the line girl, not just one line and sew 1/4 on each side. No I always drew 2 lines and sewed on each line. I know not very efficient, but old habits.
Time to trim those HSTs with my favorite Bloc-Loc.
All pieces are completed, just need to put this together.
I do like how this block turned out and it didn’t take much time at all to put together. I think I will make a few more blocks in solids and put together a small charity quilt. How about another one for Jack’s Basket.
Be sure to stop by Fat Quarter Shop’s Jolly Jabber and see who else is creating this block.
It is fun to see the old blocks…. I do love it when tools make it easier and that square in a square one looks good!
That’s a fun block, and I love it in blue and yellow!
